Claude Friese-Greene

I don't watch much TV but recently there seem to be quite a lot of things tempting me. I really enjoy the sweetness of My Name is Earl, I love the cliffhanging jeopardy of Prison Break, and although I keep missing it I still try to keep up with It's Not Easy Being Green, last night they switched off their mains water and set up a wind turbine to pump fresh spring water to the house.

What I've also been enjoying for the past few weeks is The Lost World of Claude Friese-Greene.
"In the mid-Twenties, pioneering film-maker Claude Friese-Greene travelled from Land’s End to John O’Groats chronicling British life in colour. Dan Cruickshank recreates his journey."

For those of you who don't live in the UK, or just for anyone who missed it, you can watch it online here. But hurry, they have to be watched by May 9th.

It is full of really great footage and I have to say he has some particularly wonderful footage of 1920's kids. It's also fantastic to see the old clothing from all walks of life in colour, like the bathing beauties in the photo above. It's such a gem and if you live or have been to any of the locations on his trip then you may recognise a lot of it as so much is similar even after 80 years.

Thanks for the Friese-Greene link - I have been meaning to watch them but get carried away doing something else and miss it.
