homes and gardens
Goldigger posted about this amazing 13 storey wooden house in Russia from this article in The Telegraph (UK).
When I read this post on Victory Gardens 2007+ by Shash on Sew Green I was inspired to look out my seed packets, even though I had firmly decided I would skip my annual food crops this year as it takes up my house fixing energy. But just a few Chinese salad leaves, that won't take too much time. Her post also reminded me of the wonderful posters from the UK's 'Dig for Victory' campaign from 1939...
...
Since then the UK has had a longstanding love affair with vegetable gardening. With 10 year waiting lists for allotment spaces there is clearly a desire for even more of this, yet it seems like every month I hear stories of existing allotments being sold out from under their loving inhabitants to make way for supermarkets, housing, roads and the like.
One of the most high profile examples of this is the attempt to relocate the 100 year old Manor Gardens Allotments so they can build a footpath (that will last 1 month) for the supposedly 'green' 2012 London Olympics. The allotment has a blog here and they even got a mention on Treehugger. Here is a lovely photo from the allotments from Nina Pope's flickr site...
You can watch a video clip (8mins) about the gardens here. The shed below was built by the allotmenteers for Reg (see him on the video clip), photo via this BBC site.

oh this pink shed just makes me think of spring. it just has to be there, under all the snow...
The Russian house reminds me of Howl's Moving Castle.
This house reminds me of Mattias's House! Have a look at his illustrations – they're out of this world! :)
Susan,
For you the bright side of that snow is that at least a real winter kills the a lot of garden pests, and the cold stimulates things like root veg to make them super sweet, and other stuff to grow. A lot of things are are going weird cause we're not getting enough cold days.

Hi and thanks for dropping by, and for reminding me that I STILL haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle even tho' it's on my wish list.
Amy
