Wondering what to do this Saturday?
If you live near Brooklyn and love paper cuts then wonder no more. Head to Brooklyn Botanic Garden between 1-3pm for the official opening reception of 'Hana to Mushi: Flowers and Insects' featuring the outstanding work of Japanese papercut artist Kako Ueda as and prints by April Vollmer.
Kako Ueda 'tree of life' detail, hand cut paper 2005The show is on until May 6th but further show dates and venues can be found on Kako's website, which you should visit anyway as it is filled with wonders. I particularly love the greenish head, so nice to see such use of colour in this kind of paper work. Alas an ocean prevents me attending but she said she'd love to see some of you there, so do let me know if you attend, and tell her Cally says hi!

I seems so normal to me that I forgot to say in that last email that my mum works in this castle and lives 5 mins away from this tower! So you see, you're images of green and castled land are still true in certain places :0) Speising's Scotland 2006 Flickr set shows the Scotland that exists away from the cars and traffic (or sometimes right beside them) so there's lots to see if you come, like highland cows, there are some 10mins drive from my house, I LOVE them. Have fun on Saturday.

That exhibition look amazing, it's a shame I can't go. What a wonderful place your mum works at, so many castles in Scotland, I think I'll have to plan a visit this year.
Really very amazing! How do you find these people? Your Mom...working in a castle! I say you have a couple of books of writing in you....plus your photography...and top it with savy design skills...
Thanks for the creative cheers...hate to admit it but that was a camo photo from my studio in Hawaii...phooey...I have added more, but I cannot take credit for being a receint powerhouse of art production. But thanks for the optomism!

Nothing like a lovely blog to take my mind off things unlovely! :) Lovely papercuttings – reminds me of the chinese paper cuttings we had to make while we were in school to spruce up our lanterns. Exquisite!
p.s: I'm trying to work the colour yellow into my future wedding. it's such a happy colour!
