Karen Gilbert - jewellery

Karen Gilbert: Neckpiece 'Brace' 2007?

New work by Karen Gilbert here at Velvet Da Vinci. I particularly love her neckpiece 'Nest' and many of the others on this page, it's so organic, like tangled piles of net, debris and growth on a beach. I miss the beach.

Even the fields are blue

Straw bales aren't what they used to be, though I do love the colour.

Water siphon

My 1st ever Ebay purchase! Best of all, it's white, so it will blend with my house.

I've avoided Ebay because I know I'd get addicted, but since this purchase was eco-friendly, practical, genuinely needed and loads cheaper than buying in the shops I went for it. You pump the brass end in your bath water, water butt or whatever to get the water to siphon with no need to suck on the hose. At last, being green doesn't need to involve a mouthful of dirty water.

Liz, got your mail, will reply when I get some free time and a clear head.

Ian Dingman - blue chairs

Ian Dingman: Royal, Ink & watercolour on paper, 2006

Just realised I've not posted other people's work for ages. Ian Dingman has a lot of great chair drawings on his Art for Sale pages. The blue ones above are my fave's.

Getting very intimate with many aspects of the medical profession just now. I have been to my own Doc, own hospital or Uncle's hospital every day for the last 10 days. I'm pooped, this is the busiest I've been seen the wedding in France last September (seems so long ago). The hardest thing is controlling my urge to bring holistic design to the Intensive Care Unit. It's tough when you can see little things that would make a difference to moral but you know they just don't have the time or money to implement them.

3 blue-green doors

There were 5 doors but 2 were out of focus, and I like 3's anyway.
Managed not to faint during my blood test (I'm a wimp about needles).

Black and pink

Liked the similarities in these two photo's, back of the hospital (catering unit, eugh, won't be eating there!) and back of the garden...

My gran likes pale pink

Me & my Bro

Tiny faded photo my Granny has on her wall circa 1976. I love the blue coat I've got on. Check out the black wellies and white knees...

My uncle is doing much better, thanks for the well wishes. He's out of ICU and hopefully leaving High Dependency Unit soon but it's going to be a long haul for his recovery so I'll continue to be fairly quiet here with mostly photo blogging.

I saw my own Doc today, it's amazing to be taken seriously at last. He acknowledged that no-one had properly investigated any of my health problems before and immediately lined me up for blood tests (not the usual ones) and a chest x-ray to kick off the process - not exactly a fun day out but it's a huge relief to have some hope of answers.

Veiws from the M8

Two things I've always loved about the drive to Glasgow are the tall lights and the gas tanks, looking particularly nice last Friday at sunset...
