Pierced paper - pinholes part 2

Well, you know how I said I'd lost lots of paper cut links when my internet connection kept stopping last week, well I've hunted about and re-found a few for you. Some can be seen larger if you click the picture, but as always, the best detail is on the artists sites which are worth visiting to see more of their work and to get further information about their methods and ideas.

First up a Scottish gal who went to the same art college as me (but a few years later). Eileen MacDonald now lives and teaches in the U.S. and makes very sculptural pinhole drawings...

Eileen MacDonald: Untitled, pinpricks on paper, 2005

Anna Mawby created 'Interminable' by hand piercing the phrase "I was waiting" on a 3 metre long piece of paper taking 6 hours a day for 6 weeks. 'One Day' is a piece with letters on a larger scale, each large letter made with 100's of pin pricks...

Anna Mawby: Interminable, detail. 2007

Eloise Ghioni made the next piece as part of her recent Third Skin range of work, available to buy on ETSY. She also has her work on Flickr...

Oh my, those MacDonald pieces are beyond lovely! So happy to learn of her work. You show such great stuff, Cally.

I wrote a post on my "turnip" blog today that brought you and what your daily struggles must be to mind. Your description of your walk with the dog and the photos of the "dangerous field" have made a strong and persistent impression.

cheers for now,

These are interesting... I've seen MacDonald's work before, and can only imagine doing pinhole sculpturally!

Hi Cally! Delighted to see your commments on my blog. Thank You so much. As you can see its only new and going slowly but I wanted to start it because I realised that one of the things I really miss from being ill and not seeing my friends is the chitchat about books and artists and interesting things you've seen. (I was still in college when I got ill so there was lots of coffee and chit chat!) I totally see what you mean about it swallowing up time though! I thought I was spending alot of time on the internet before, but its after doubling now! But I like the fact that I have something to show for it and I don't intend on updating every single day... yet.

Thanks for being honest about your M.E. I'm an expert in putting on a happy face too. No-one wants to be friends with a moaner, do they! And I've moved back home and my parents have been amazing so I hate whinging at them...eventhough I do it often enough! Reality is M.E. sucks! I got really overtired last night and had a good cry about it but everythings much brighter this morning. I hope today is a 'good' day for you too. M

cally--

these are incredible. very sculptural (can't imagine how she does that) and sensual... a language she almost takes from the natural world and whitens, makes into the context of written (paper-origins of) texts.

Hi Cally,

I just wanted to say thanks for featuring my work on your site :)

I'm enjoying looking at all the other artists you have shown and feel really pleased that I am amongst them!

Hi Anna,
So nice to have you visit. Your work is so well suited to the month of beautiful white art. I am so impressed by the obsession and patience that must be involved in making your pinhole pieces.

I am an a level student who has a seemingly endless load of work on. I was becoming stuck for innovative and creative ideas, mostly when experimenting in different media. I stumbled across your blog and would like to thank you for your inspiration! It is sensational. Love your work, especially photography. Thankyou
